Baby Signs® with baby pistachio
When I was pregnant with my first daughter Marley, I saw a segment on my local news channel about baby sign language. Simultaneously, my sister had been sharing her frustration with me regarding my then 2 year old nephew Conner. Conner knew exactly what he wanted and would repeat his unintelligible request over and over again until he would end up in tears. My sister was completely dumbfounded and eventually developed a mothers code for Conner’s developing language. She wished she was able to better understand what he wanted much earlier in the process, before he could use his words.
Months after my daughter was born I found a sign language program for babies in my neighborhood. Needless to say I loved the class and our instructor. Marley and I found ourselves determined to make it out of the house in the dead of winter, rain, sleet or snow. When Marley finally started to sign about 2 months into the program I was inspired.
When I returned to work Marley was fifteen months old and using words as well as signs. I sent our caregiver Fernanda to classes. She often joked I would make a great instructor when she saw me an Marley signing before I left for work and when I came home.
Fast forward 3 years and I am now a mother of two. I started signing with Ella from birth. She started to sign back “milk” at 6 months. Now at 10 months she is able to model most of the signs I use and often signs (milk, poop, eat and more) on her own. The best part of this entire journey is watching Marley sign with her baby sister.
Today, I am a Baby Signs® Independent Certified Instructor. I would like to share the experience, pride and joy of signing with you and your family.
